Threshold41 is a web directory maintained in the style of an expedition log — a structured field record of active websites across 22 sectors of the open web. The project began as a mapping exercise: to chart what is actually live and accessible across a wide range of industries, without editorial gatekeeping or paid placement. Every site in the log has been submitted directly by its owner and reviewed for basic accessibility before being added to the record.
The log is divided into 22 sectors, each covering a distinct terrain of the web. Some sectors are densely populated — wagering platforms and general listings run to the hundreds — while others represent more specialised terrain with fewer but precisely located entries. Each sector carries field notes describing the character of the sites within it, along with example coordinates drawn from the logged entries.
Threshold41 does not rank sites or assign scores. The log is a record, not a verdict. A site's position in the list reflects the order in which it was submitted, nothing more. Navigators are encouraged to browse by sector, read the field notes, and follow coordinates of interest directly to the source.
Submission is open and free. Any publicly accessible site may be proposed for inclusion via the submission form. The field team reviews each submission for basic criteria before logging it under the appropriate sector. Sites that have gone dark or are no longer accessible are periodically removed from the record during maintenance sweeps.
The expedition log format is a deliberate choice. The web is large, varied, and best understood through structured exploration rather than algorithmic shortlisting. Threshold41 provides the map; navigators chart their own course.
